lazy bloggers + 1 year.

today is may 4, 2009. one year ago we got married. whoop!

sorry about not blogging since, oh... um december or so? my camera battery is shot, so these pics are all from my phone or borrowed. plus we've been busy being married and all... =)

this first christmas season was a crazy one. we both worked up to christmas eve which was my sister Jami's 21st birthday. having a christmas eve birthday is tough, so we tried to make this one extra special. we went to 18 seaboard for dinner on the 23rd with my parents and then lee, brentley, derek, jami and i went out to celebrate jami's birthday in style.

i think all in all we had 6 or maybe 7 different "christmases" to attend between the 21st and jan 4. we celebrated with my parents late on christmas eve (here is a photo from christmas eve). brentley became sick around the 26th and missed one christmas gathering, and then of course i began to feel it a week later as we made our way to west virginia for the final christmas celebration. this was an extra special christmas for brentley because he got hooked up with guitars all from the '80's! i only have a picture of the one i got him (picture below), but if i can get some copies of the photos that were taken at his moms house, i'll post the others. they're all amazing and very beautiful! i'm so glad he was able to get these guitars, because the Lord has certainly found many uses for them. brentley's other acoustic had a huge crack in it which was spreading noticeably. i wanted him to have a nicer (not cracked) guitar to use for leading worship in our homegroup. his mom knew he wanted a nicer electric guitar and was able to get that for him also. it was so awesome to get to see all of our families, and to celebrate our first christmas as a married couple.

we made our way to west virgina on new years day to spend the weekend with keith and joy. we took paul along for the ride, and it was a much needed mini vacation for us all! we spent the entire weekend sleeping in, relaxing, reading (i read the entire twilight series), enjoying wonderful family fellowship, and last but not least, the hot tub! hot tubs are definitely most enjoyable when the weather is nice and cold (which it was!). while we were there brentley became smitten with joy's new cat. though i usually loathe cats, i actually liked it too. joy took this cat in from a neighbor that passed away, and it took to her right away. it's definitely the biggest cat i've seen in a while, but it is so loving and sweet. one night it even tried to sleep with us, though i don't think it could handle our tossing and turning. this might have been the cat that saved the reputation of all cats for me. i've even become open to getting a cat (since brentley will not let me have a dog)... though my conditions are that it must be like this cat in every way =)

once we returned from west virgina we became immersed in the new year. brentley was baptised, and we joined our church! being a part of this church has probably been the best thing we've done for our marriage so far. we are constantly being strenthened and refined by God through the relationships we've developed and through the stellar teachings.

we've been apart of a home group for about 8 months or so now, and as I mentioned brentley is leading worship in that fellowship. he also began playing drums with the worship team a few sundays a month, and he occasionally leads worship for the youth group. it seems that his musical gifts have really opened up doors for him to serve and get to know a lot of people very quickly. God has been good to him! outside of brentley's music commitments, we've hosted an "office party" gathering at our house on thursday evenings for the past few months. this has been a great way to get to know lots of other couples in the church. now that time has changed and we're all itching to be outside, we've retired the party.

the new thursday night activity seems to be frisbee golf. sorry. disk golf. brentley began playing a few months ago. we played as a couple a few times, where brentley learned that he will always be better than me at that sport. so anyway it looks like the guys in the group will be getting together on thursdays to play the various courses around the area, and the ladies are still thinking up something fun to do. here is a picture i snapped while brentley was about to "tee off." there are two disk golf courses near us--one in holly springs and one at sharon harris park in apex. i actually really enjoy going with him (minus the ticks), because i enjoy walking so much--especially when the walk is as scenic as sharon harris lake.

here is a photo (thanks hannah!) with some of the girls-- dawn, me, hannah, and georgia. we all have february birthdays so this is us celebrating with georgia and her family for her birthday. as luck would have it, pf changs is one of my favorite restaurants so it was sort of a birthday gift to me too! hannah and chris just adopted the cutest baby boy ever in november. georgia and michael are due in september for a baby (girl--says brentley). dawn and her husband eli are in the process of adopting too... hmmm.... guess that leaves me. no news for now. sorry future grandmas. we love you. xoxo

ok, i think that can be considered a nice blog post update. leave us comments and maybe i'll be more likely to update more often =)

ps. thanks so much to everyone who has been praying for me and my job situation. not much has changed since the bankruptcy filing at Nortel, but I am so thankful to still have employment. the stress of not knowing what will happen from day to day makes it hard to stay focused, but my managers and co workers are amazing, so I count myself extremely blessed!
