for those of you who may not know, b + i just moved to durham about a month ago (and we love it). if you know anything about durham you definitely know about duke university and blue devil basketball (go heels!). you probably also know about the durham bulls. and, perhaps you even associate it with a little gang violence (what city doesn't have a little of that?). but, did you know that durham has a plethora of amazing restaurants, some of which are well known around the world?
i sort of did and sort of didn't. i knew about some places because i've heard my friends talk about them. my friend tziporah went to duke, and i remember her talking about cosmic cantina, george's garage (RIP), and elmos diner (which was featured on rachel ray's "$40 a day"). i remember eating with her family at parizade for her birthday one year. i've heard allison talk about places she goes near work like alivias , and nana's which is where i believe she and her new husband had their first date. a few months ago, i met chrissie at mez, and i have to say that's one of my new favorite mexican restaurants! a close second to that might be blue corn cafe which i went to with b and julie last night. and one of our other recent eating adventures took place at toast with a few friends, which was really neat!
even with all these great food spots which i knew about prior to moving to durham, i have discovered that i still didn't have a clue about the food in durham! but to my great excitement (can you tell i love food??), i found this website: www.durham-nc.com which has every restaurant listed in the city, and i've been referencing it ever since. i also found a website for restaurants in the raleigh area which has been helpful too: http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/at-ease/dining
so next time you get stuck having to pick the restaurant, and you can't think of any place to go... check out these websites and perhaps one of the many options will tickle your fancy!
p.s. any recommendations?

1st date was The Weathervane, but Nana's is a great one! I miss having Durham restaurants as an easy option. It is a little more of a drive now. Some of our favorites are Fishmonger's, Shiki Sushi, and Thai Cafe. I recently went to Chubby's Tacos on 9th Street with the lunch crew at work and it was awesome! I could go on...so many I still want to try before we move.
