Sweet Bread

For Christmas this year a friend of mine at work, Julia, gave me a loaf of this amazing bread. She was willing to pass the recipe along to me (and knows I'm posting it on this blog) on the single condition that I not make it and hand it out to anyone at work at Christmas time in the coming years. =)

Julia's Sweet Bread
3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/3 cups oil
1 1/2 teaspoons poppy seed
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract

Mix all ingredients until smooth. Pour into lightly greased mini loaf pans (makes 5 loaves). Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Glaze Topping
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 teaspoons melted butter

Mix all ingredients for glaze in separate bowl. Leave bread in the pans and pour glaze over bread as soon as they are taken from the oven. It seems like a lot (and very runny) but glaze will soak into the bread. Enjoy!

All this bread talk makes me want some carbs!! We definitely need to get Kate to school us in the art of bread making.
