Blog on Lock?

OK so one of my friends decided (wisely) to make her blog private.  And I quickly jumped on the band wagon to do so too...  except then I realized that people can't request permission to read my blog.  They have to be invited by me.  But, I don't know who reads my blog (though I imagine it's mostly friends or at the least good acquaintances like sisters of my friends), so how will I know who to invite?

I decided to think on it a bit and make it public again until I knew how to proceed.  I made sure that my blog doesn't show up on google or anything, which is one step in the direction of security...  I've also changed my domain name... it's now http://jodikatherine.blogspot.com/.  I know it's not terribly original, but I needed to make it more generic since I'm not doing a good job of keeping this blog focused on things only "domestic and/or delicious" as originally planned.  It's more just a chronicle of things going on in my life that I feel like sharing.  Sometimes I share things months later, other times right away.  Sometimes I share personal things and other times I'm sharing random recipes or a night out with the girls, and I feel as though I'm doing so amongst friends.  But I'm not naive...

One  blog I love to read and follow is Molly Piper's.  I don' t know her at all, but her father-in-law is a well known pastor... so some how reading something he or his wife posted on twitter, I found her blog.  On her blog she has this saying "you maybe a stranger, but you're not a stalker."  And I really appreciate that.  I mean, I'm a harmless gal reading her blog, and I have been immensely blessed by it!  And if I were her and she were me, I'd be OK with her reading my blog!  So how the heck to do I make sure I don't have weirdo for real stalkers and know who is reading my blog, but still allow people (friends of friends) to read my blog and hope that they find something encouraging or tasty or get their laugh of the day?

So anyway, If you're one of those people to whom gmail sent an "invitation" to read this blog-- sorry for the confusion.  If I didn't invite you but you do read it and would like to continue reading it, email me and I'll invite you.  This way if I do decide to just make it private in the future, you won't get shut out.

I think I'm going to write a note to the blogger people and suggest that they come up with privacy settings that are more than just "all" or "nothing."  Perhaps like a limited facebook profile or something.  And that they make a link where readers can request to view a blog to the author.  I think this would settle my problem nicely.  If they already have this, and I'm just slow in coming up to speed on blog security PLEASE let me know! =)
