The first month with Tag flew by in a serious blur. Here is what I can remember from the first few weeks with our sweet boy:
-We didn't tell anyone the names we had picked out for the baby until we discovered it was a boy. About 10 minutes after he was born, before I had even held him(they didn't hand him to me right away because he wasn't breathing properly), we announced his name to the people in the room. Later on, Brentley took a polaroid photo of Tag and wrote on the bottom of it Corwin "Tag" Cobb and took it to the crowd in the waiting room. Brentley thought we had decided to call him Tag, but I thought we were going to call him Corwin. Obviously he won out, and we now call him Tag.
-We thought Tag had his days and nights mixed up big time during week one. He got straightened out around week 3 when we went to church and a friend told us that if he sleeps a lot during the day, he'll sleep better at night. So we worked to get him sleeping as much as possible during the day and soon discovered he's a sleep-o-holic, just like his momma (Hallelujah)! Also, I began using the swaddleme blanket things and they put Tag to sleep in less than 5 minutes--No Joke!
-Brentley was home the first week and helped out a lot, so sleep was sort of possible for me (even though I didn't always take full advantage of it). It was still huge a reality check for me to not sleep more than 2 hours at a time for the first few weeks. Compared to some friends of mine, that was actually a lot of sleep though.
-Nursing was harder than I anticipated, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Tag loves to eat!
-I read lots of baby books while I was pregnant and was surprised that none of them told me exactly what to do and when. I can't believe how much guesswork is involved in parenting a baby! However, I'm so grateful for the grace which God has given me. AND I have to give a shout out to all the women who told me about "Happiest Baby on the Block." Those "S's" saved me!
Tag's first well visit was great-- he gained back his birth weight by day 7 (that was almost a pound in a weeks time).
-We were brought meals every other night from our church family starting the night after we got home. We had one frozen meal in the freezer which my dear friend Allison had made for us (before she went off and became a temporary Yankee ;)), and we ate that delicious meal the first night. Other friends brought us meals in the nights we didn't have meals from church, and my friend Tziporah brought us 4 frozen meals + PW cinnamon rolls which we thoroughly enjoyed! Around week 5 she brought us 4 more more meals and PW cinnamon rolls! We have been seriously BLESSED!!!! (P.S. I'll post some recipes and some of the meal ideas later on my other blog)
-Tag was out of newborn diapers by the end of the second week! I learned this when he peed through his diaper onto my dad while he was holding him. He was out of most of his newborn clothes by the 4th week.
-Our Dog, Durham, seems a bit jealous of Tag... it's getting better though. She is very gentle and respectful of the baby, but always wants attention when I'm giving attention to Tag.
-Around week 3 we broke down and got a swing. It rocks (literally and figuratively)!
-At his one month check up Tag weighed 10.56 oz and was 21 1/4 inches long.
-Confession: Once, around the 4th week, the battery died on the baby monitor somewhere between the 3:30 am feeding and 7am. I woke up and ran upstairs and of course Tag was crying... then I cried. If he has attachment issues, I'll know this was the reason!
Lastly, here are a few photos... it's crazy how much he's changed already!!
